Note from Kristine Palle
Assistant Commissioner CIFSS
The NFHS rule book states that flags must be of a contrasting color to the shorts and that shorts must be a single solid color. If your shorts are not solid, you are in violation. If your flags are not contrasting (which they are not), this is a violation. Game officials do not have the ability to waive NFHS uniform rules; I hope you aren’t being given that impression.
Our office will not waive this rule for any teams, as what you’re describing would give a team a competitive advantage from a “flag visibility” standpoint over its opponents.
The potential loss of a playoff home game is the penalty for uniforms that do not meet the required standards. Please correct this as soon as possible to avoid any home game loss as a result of a penalty.
I will include the liaisons and the official groups, specifically the instructional chairs, on this reminder. They can then relay that message to their officials and remind them of enforcement.
